About Me and MandersWorks

MandersWorks was founded by Christopher Jay Manders in order to create custom and handmade arts, crafts, medieval and modern items, instruments, and jewelry. Here is how Christopher's experiences led to the founding of MandsWorks:

My adventure with jewelry started on an American Indian reservation in four corners Arizona where I spent the good part of a school year. The high school that I attended while I was there had many vocational programs to choose from, and I chose to focus on on metalsmithing and leather works. I left with a solid understanding of what to do and what not to do with many of the shop tools, as well as two silver pendants that used piercing, engraving and brazing techniques

I left the American Indian nation and went to another high school, which also had plenty of arts and crafts facilities. I used and learned about many of the tools through their facilities, including their pottery and clay, woodworking, luthier, and photography facilities. However, I was not able to return to metal and leatherworking until the end of the school year.

At the end of that particular year I had become inspired by the J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Lord of the Rings' to make a sword. Obviously I had no intention of using the thing as a weapon...it was simply for the coolness value. I recall that I did not even think twice when I 'discovered' bricks from somewhere and had created a really rather elaborate forge in my parent's backyard. I think the amount of smoke may have produced less smoke than the time I accidentally created and detonated a smoke bomb in my garage. There were three that I created, with one being far superior.

Well, years went by and my focus on other things conspired to keep me away from art. But, after a bit of time gathering the necessary tools I have been back making and again creating objects from metal. My current focus is on finer applications of metalwork and the creation of custom items that express my inner artist, my heart, and my soul.

The MandersWorks studio now hosts a variety of projects. Please feel free to contact us for further information.

It is my sincere hope that you enjoy my creations.
